Mission Statement:
The mission of the Village of Genoa Police Department is
- To safeguard freedom by preserving life and property, protecting the constitutional rights of individuals, maintaining order and encouraging respect for the rule of law by the proper enforcement thereof.
- To earn the respect of all individuals, including minority and disadvantaged persons, by maintaining a knowledgeable, responsive, well-trained and accountable work force that discharges their duties and responsibilities with evidence of fairness, tolerance and equality.
- To reduce the opportunity for the commission of crime by implementing effective crime prevention strategies, fully investigating crimes when they occur and expeditiously apprehending criminal offenders.
- To identify, address and resolve the root causes of community problems and concerns in concert with citizen groups and representatives through the use of community oriented policing strategies.
Meet the Genoa Police Force
CHIEF OF POLICE
Chief Bratton along with his wife of 34 years, have resided in Genoa for 17 years. They have a daughter, who lives in Chicago, Ill.
Chief Bratton has been in law enforcement for close to 39 years. He started his career with the Sylvania Township Police Department, before serving with the Lucas County Sherriff’s Department. He held a position with the Northwood Police Department for 15 years before joining the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, where he was ultimately elected to the position of Sheriff.
In June of 2009 while serving as the Ottawa County Sheriff, Chief Bratton received the Detective Keith Dressel Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.
Chief Bratton joined the Village of Genoa Police Department in September 2011.

Officer Eric Macek began his law enforcement career in 2008 with the Pemberville Police Department and has been with the Village of Genoa, Division of Police since 2008.
Officer Macek graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and has furthered his training by attending Owen’s , Belmont and Jefferson Community Colleges.

Officer Kevin Miller began his law enforcement career in 2004 with the Put-in-Bay Police Department and has been with the Village of Genoa, Division of Police since 2006. Officer Miller is also a Part-Time police officer for the Portage Police Department.
Officer Miller is a graduate of Owens Community College where he obtained additional courses in the criminal justice field.

Sergeant Todd Mocniak began his law enforcement career in 1999 and has been with the Village of Genoa, Division of Police since 2001.
Sergeant Mocniak graduated Owen’s Community College with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.
Sergeant Mocniak has furthered his training by attending courses in Evidence Management, Forensic Photography, Hazardous Materials, Narcotics and Criminal Investigations.

Officer Mike Woods began his law enforcement career in 2003 and has been with the Village of Genoa, Division of Police since 2008. Officer Woods is also a part-time officer for Kellys Island and Bay View Police Departments.
Officer Woods graduated Wright State University with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. He has also attended the Arizona Correctional Training Academy and Sinclair Community College.
Officer Woods enjoys hunting and boating, in his free time, with his daughter.
